Temperature alert
A discreet cue on the raw METAR only (TAFs carry no temperature) highlights the temperature/dewpoint group when it's hot or near saturation — and flags a light wind alongside it, using the same cue as the condition that fired.
The cue highlights the TT/DD token, e.g. 28/19:
- The group turns orange when the temperature is +27°C or higher — a heads-up for hot conditions that reduce helicopter performance.
- The group is underlined — at any temperature — when the temperature and dewpoint are within 2°C of each other, signalling the air is near saturation (fog/low-cloud potential). When it's both hot and close, the group appears underlined and orange.
- When this alert fires, a light surface wind is highlighted alongside it — the wind group is picked up when the sustained wind is under 5 kt (calm winds, e.g.
00000KT,27003KT, orVRB02KT). The wind carries the same cue as whichever trigger fired, so it reads with the condition it belongs to:- Near saturation (spread 2 °C or less) → the wind is underlined. Air close to saturation with nothing to mix it is a classic fog and stagnation setup.
- Hot (+27 °C or higher) → the wind turns orange. Heat raises density altitude, and with no wind there is no translational lift to help — both work against performance.
- Both → the wind is orange and underlined, matching the temperature/dewpoint group.
Only the temperature/dewpoint group (and, when the alert fires, a light-wind group) changes; the rest of the raw report is unchanged. This is a visual cue, not a substitute for evaluating density altitude, performance charts, or the full weather picture.
